Lessons From…LARPs: The Series

Life lessons from “LARPs”. Listen carefully.

JAG's avatarjeezuswords

Still kind of reeling from PAX South, so not quite prepared to do the usual intensive and insightful (I know I am indeed a very modest and humble individual) post that I strive for. Seriously, I am functioning on like 5 -10 hours of sleep after working 30 hours as an Enforcer and then running around trying to see as much on my off time. No clue how guests like Markiplier can keep their energy levels up for conventions for so long. The man is a machine.

So, in keeping with the geek filled continuum of the weekend, I decided to do a short analysis of the new series, LARPs, on Geek & Sundry. It is completely free to watch on the Geek & Sundry YouTube channel and the first episode can be found here:

If you have any interest in either Live Action Role Playing (LARPing…

Press since the re-launch

Some lovely people have been writing about us during the past week or two. Here is some of that:

  • Tubefilter: “[LARPs] has many aspects in common with Day’s web series The Guild, which also examined the interpersonal relationships among a group of nerdy friends. LARPs also shares some commonalities with Unplugged; both series examine LARPing in a manner that is fun for fans and accessible for viewers who are unfamiliar with the subject. Given these similarities, it’s easy to see why Geek & Sundry is interested in showing LARPs to its 1.1 million subscribers.
  • Geeky News
  • Leo Sigh: “To me, it has a bit of an air of ‘The Guild‘ about it so far, and as that was my favorite web series of all time, I’m really looking forward to this one.
  • The Mod Building: “Though the show takes the hobby seriously, it adds a perfect amount of humor to balance things out.

Webisode Watch Interview

Last night Scott, Charlotte, Julian and I sat down for a delightful chat with Blair Beveridge for his show Webisode Watch. Despite having to avoid any mention of plot points (since Ep. 0 is only being relaunched tomorrow) we managed to fill an entire hour with scintillating, intoxicating conversation.

And for those of you who missed it:

Thanks for having us, Blair!

New Year…

…And stuff is on its way.

We’re launching a fancy new Season 1 trailer this Friday, January 9th, then every Friday after that an episode will be live on Geek & Sundry’s Youtube channel. Not only that, but every Saturday we will be releasing some exclusive bonus content that even those who watched the show the first time around may not be familiar with. Don’t forget to subscribe to Geek & Sundry in order to see everything.

We also may or may not be having a readthrough of Season 2 tomorrow… I’m just sayin’.

“LARPs” Meets “Echelon”

Last night the LARPs crew put on our finest, braved the ridiculous blizzard and made our way to the launch of a new Montreal web series called Echelon.

An elite agency that mentors talented emerging artists, Echelon is run by ‘angel’ investors who offer sponsorship with only one condition: the artist must fulfill a single ‘request’ when the program expires. This contract is strictly enforced by STRAHD, the agency ‘collector’.

When IAN, a promising fashion designer, KIRA, an alluring journalist, and CEDRIK, a maestro ghetto musician, fall prey to the destructive Echelon program, they hatch a revenge plan to unmask the agency. But they soon discover Echelon is run by one of Europe’s oldest and most powerful families with an agenda more sinister than any could imagine…

Aaaaaaand here’s the teaser:

Basically it’s a lot of really great people making a really cool project. As you can see, we certainly had fun at the launch:
